McCarthy Wins $70M Wastewater Treatment Project in Kansas
Abstract
The City of Lawrence has selected McCarthy Building Co. as general contractor for its $70-million project to improve the Kansas River Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant, which opened in 1956, receives nearly 80% of city wastewater, with an average flow of 8 million gallons per day. The improvements are required to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulatory permit requirements. The plant has a dry weather capacity. The project is slated to begin in May 2023 and completion is expected in fall 2026. The construction is scheduled to start in May 2013. The contractor is soliciting trade partners for the project.
