Denver Airport wraps $2.3B gate expansion project

Abstract

Dive Brief: Denver International Airport wrapped up two major concourse projects on Friday, the last part of a $2.3 billion expansion effort that has added 39 gates over the last four years and increased gate capacity by 30%, according to a press release from the airport. The new gates were constructed as part of the airport's gate expansion program by two joint ventures: Holder Construction and FCI Constructors on Concourse B-East and Concourse C-East; and Turner Construction and Flatiron Construction on Concourse A-West and Concourse B-West. Work began in 2018, and new gates started opening in 2020. The final 12 new gates on A-West and 10 new gates on B-East that opened Friday are leased by United Airlines. Dive Insight: Each of the Denver Airport's three existing concourses was expanded through the gate expansion program to allow existing airlines an opportunity to grow and to accommodate new ones, including international carriers. The first four new gates opened on the west side of Concourse B in November 2020, 16 new gates on the east side of Concourse C in May 2022 and seven new gates on the east side of Concourse B in October 2022, according to the project website.
