Towers Rise Atop Largest NYC Geothermal Energy System
Abstract
A 471,000-sq-ft, 463-unit residential complex set to open one block from the Brooklyn beach in 2024. The complex’s dual-level pool deck has views of the iconic Coney Island amusement park and the Atlantic Ocean. The 1515 Surf Ave. campus will merge two structures on a site bordered by Surf and Mermaid avenues and by W. 15th and W. 16th streets. The team ended up subdividing the site.

Four years of testing on Melbourne, Australia's subway tunnel project have convinced university engineering researchers that geothermal energy in deep foundations can heat and cool the buildings they support.Trials took place at one of five stations on the city project, which is set to open in 2025. Plastic water-filled pipes feeding heat exchangers were cast into 130-ft-deep shaft retaining walls of the subway's State Library station."With the ground remaining at a stable temperatu...

The U.S. Dept. of Energy is pushing an effort to expand use of geothermal energy in regions where it is not currently feasible. The department’s “Enhanced Geothermal Shot” program, announced Sept. 8, aims to reduce the cost by 90% by 2035 of enhanced geothermal systems for heating and cooling, as part of broader Biden administration efforts to achieve a net-zero carbon emissions economy by 2050.U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement, that moving geothermal...

What is an energy management system?
An energy management system should be an all-encompassing tool for organizations to streamline energy management tasks. It should help businesses analyze their energy usage, identify wastage and facilitate the implementation of energy reduction measures; saving money while managing their environmental responsibilities. However, an energy management system is responsible for much more than simply making an energy manager’s life easier. There are often c...

An energy management system (EMS) is an automated system that collects data and compiles it into an user friendly application. The goal of an energy management system is to bring disparate data into one interface, which can then be used to perform analysis, detect anomalies, manage utility bills and ultimately identify opportunities for lower consumption, carbon emissions and overall cost.
We know what an energy management system does and what we should expect from it on a functional level....

From above, the 2,000-acre new housing development just outside Austin, Texas, looks much like any other. Each home has solar panels, but that's no longer uncommon. But the Whisper Valley community is entirely unique thanks to what lies below. Far below. The master-planned community, which will eventually include multifamily units and garden apartments in addition to single-family homes, is built atop an enormous geothermal grid. It's the largest ever created for a residential community – ess...
