Despite Pleas from Landlords, Los Angeles Extends Ban on Evictions - Real Estate Investing Today

Los Angelesā€™ Channel 7 (KABC) is reporting that, despite pleas from frustrated landlords, the Los Angeles City Council voted 11-1 in late July to extend the cityā€™s emergency declaration allowing their eviction moratorium to continue indefinitely.Ā  KABC also said landlords say they are just regular people caught in the middle, stuck footing a bill they cannot afford.Ā  Indeedā€¦

ā€œā€¦This eviction moratorium has got to end.ā€Ā  Said Councilman John Lee, the only councilman to vote NO on the reinstatement.

ā€œYou canā€™t walk into your neighborhood grocery store and say ā€˜Because food is a necessity, Iā€™m going to walk out without paying,'ā€ said Cheryl Turner, board president of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles, which represents landlords. ā€œBut we are being criticized for asserting our rights to collect our rent.ā€
