Independent Contractor Rule: Who Wins and Who Loses
Independent Contractor Rule: Who Wins and Who Loses
Abstract
Construction industry would like to hold off and change the Biden administration plan to reverse a Trump administration rule on independent contractors. The new Labor Dept. mandate would likely force more employers to put them on staff, in tax terms, to W2s from 1099s. The idea is that workers would gain, say some progressive policy analysts that support the change. Opponents include court reporters, a not-for-profit association manager and even a California freelance musician. The Associated Builders and the National Association of Home Builders seeks more time to comment.
