$2.1M Midcentury Modern Gem in Connecticut Features Curved Roof and Unique Design
Abstract
A recently listed midcentury modern masterpiece in New Canaan, CT, features a show-stopping design for $2.1 million. "James Evans trained at Yale and designed this house for his own family," says listing agent John Engel, of Douglas Elliman. "At the time, he was looking to take the Glass House concept in a new direction, so the home was an experiment with roof design." Not only does the spacious home feature a unique design, but it also has a hyperbolic paraboloid, or curved, roof. New Canaan is known for its midcentury modern homes. The innovative design of the home includes suspension bridge technology and walls of glass. "The ceiling is unobstructed, but that's the whole point of the design-so you can see all the way from one side of the house to the other." Who does Engel envision to be the next buyer? "This house has had probably 10 times the number of traffic than any listing in our portfolio," he says. "Most interested people are coming from either New York or L.A. I think it will end up being a secondary home for someone, but we have had people looking at it who want to add a guesthouse and pool for a primary residence."
