Award of Merit, Energy/Industrial: Oconee Feedwater Heater Replacement
Abstract
The Oconee Nuclear Station is located in the U.S. and the nuclear plant in the eastern part of the eastern region. The project was completed in a single hour and a total of 1,000,000 square meters of water. More than 40,000 safe work hours were invested in the effort, which extends the nuclear power plant’s useful life. The project also included the complete replacement of the 60-ton heaters. A hydraulicly-controlled sliding rail system was installed. A motorized knuckle boom crane enhanced the operation's agility, as it could be mobilized to needed locations within 15 minutes. The team installed all piping and interferences. Once the units’ alignment was completed and verified, the team installedAll piping and Interferes was performed by the team in an operation that required 700 welds. The process was reversed to install the replacement units.
