As you may know, there is a federal law enacted in 1968 that bans discrimination in the purchase, sale, rental, or financing of housingā€”private or publicā€”based on race, skin color, sex, nationality, or religion. It is called the Fair Housing Act. 

So, what should we do in order to avoid violating the Fair Housing Act? Here are some tips:

  • Keep the contract in mind
  • Focus on objective information
  • Proceed with caution
  • Talk to your agent
  • Know your state law
